WATER'S ROLE IN THE BODY

Water helps nearly every part of the human body function efficiently.  Considering that our bodies are almost two-thirds water, it is important to understand water's role in healthy lifestyles.

There are many ways in which water plays an important role in your body's function.  For example, your brain is 75% percent water, and even moderate dehydration can cause headaches and dizziness.  Who can afford this in today's fast-paced society?  On the whole, the adult's body is 70% water.  So, obviously, without water, our bodies would not be alive.  But even slight changes in water-body composition can affect your breathing, as oxygen that we take in must be moistened for proper breathing.  Also, the plasma in our blood (which is 92% water) helps carry the oxygen to all of the cells in the body.  The blood plasma also carries nutrients to all cells, and the water in our stomach and intestinal walls helps absorb those nutrients in the digestive tract.  And once those nutrients reach the cells, water within the cells helps convert those nutrients into energy.  Water also helps remove waste (or else the body becomes constipated), regulates body temperature, and protects and cushions joints and vital organs.  Human muscles are 75% water, and even our bones are 22% water.  So even though we seem to be comprised of solid matter, this is not really the case.  And like the plants in our gardens and the ones found in nature, we would wither and die without it.  So stay hydrated!  Don't take water for granted.
